Panel discussion: Understanding and tackling climate change
Overshadowed by the 2022 war in Europe, climate change is probably the biggest challenge facing humanity now and in the decades to come. At CROZ, we believe in corporate responsibility to all stakeholders, not just our shareholders. In the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, “climate action” is a major theme. If we as a society do not massively slow down the pace of climate change, even try to reverse it, and act boldly and thoughtfully soon, many of the other goals will also become unattainable. The latest IPCC report, Climate Change 2022: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, shows with the highest scientific reliability and quality how climate change and the effects of different actions, adaptations or failure to act in time will lead to different scenarios and how these will affect many aspects of our lives and especially the lives of our children and grandchildren. The CROZ QED conference has managed over the years to bring together open-minded professionals and decision-makers from industry, government and academia who have the ability and determination to learn, discuss difficult problems and embrace change – not only in IT, but more importantly in business culture, mindset and priorities. In 2022, we are discussing the overarching theme of future-proofing. Society and companies will not be future-proof if they do not understand and address climate change. It is not about greenwashing. It’s about real consequences. We will have great speakers who understand this issue and the international process of tackling climate change from their own long experience. Let’s learn from them, discuss with them and each other. And then let’s return to our various roles of acting, teaching and spreading insight and urgency.
